IN THE BEGINNING
Part 7
#166.03
God — The Law Of Life And Death
There is a law which kills and there is a law that quickens. One law takes away the other gives. There is a law that slays and there is a law that enlivens, and they are both the same law; namely, God — The Law Of Life And Death. Ah, one of those mysterious paradoxes!
The Law, in one fashion, is the embodiment of Christ. To some it is life, while to others it is death. To one the Law is Ten Commandments unto death to self, to another it is Ten Promises unto Life in Christ Jesus. To some, God is a life giver, and to others He is a killer, even the one who has the power to kill not only the body, but the soul as well. Matt. 10:28. And many see Him as a judge of condemnation, while others see a God who refuses to condemn, that is, refuses to bring correction to any degree. Paul said something about condemnation several times, in particular: 1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Rom. 8:1-2.
A lot is being said these days about condemnation, and some of what we are hearing is that there is none, except, perhaps, that which comes from those who bring a word that shines a light on error. They are accused of condemning others. Of late, I have been numbered among the condemners, and I receive such numbering with gratitude. You have honored me. Thank you very kindly. But please, no more accolades. Be seated, now, and we will continue. It’s o.k.! Go ahead and smile, and while you ponder where I am coming from or where I am going, I will draw our attention to a couple of thoughts.
First, the verse above does say that there is therefore now no condemnation, and this portion of the verse is used quite frequently to shore up the idea that there is now no condemnation at all as far as God is concerned. But we would do ourselves an injustice if we fail to read further; namely, there is no condemnation to them who are IN Christ Jesus. There is no condemnation to them who walk NOT after the flesh. And there is no condemnation to them who walk after THE SPIRIT. Since this is so, we can conclude that there are some who are not in Christ Jesus. Therefore, by default, there IS condemnation to them who are NOT IN Christ Jesus. There IS condemnation to them who walk after the flesh. And there IS condemnation to them who walk NOT after THE SPIRIT. How much plainer can it be? One plus one equals two. One minus one equals zero. There is no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus; yet, there is condemnation to those who are not in Christ Jesus. Simple, isn’t it? And surely, this is not the latest breaking news; but from listening to some, it may very well be.
The fact is, everyone is not in Christ Jesus. Some are, some are not. If you happen to be in Him, and if we have seeing eyes, we will most likely see Him when we look upon you. We will see a person walking in the Spirit. If you are not in Him, we will see nothing of Him, only someone walking in the flesh and satisfying his or her own desires, whether they are worldly desires or religious ones.
Second, the word, condemnation, comes from the Greek word, katakrima, and means an adverse decision, or sentence. Kata means down, and krima, means a decision. I must say with all honesty, neither you nor I qualify to pass sentences on others. Notwithstanding, there is still condemnation to be reckoned with. 18Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation (katakrima); even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. Rom. 5:18.
Again, some simple math — those who are in Adam and not in Christ Jesus suffer condemnation. They all die. It was an adverse sentence made long ago. Moreover, taking and eating forbidden fruit is that which would trigger the sentence, and the promise of that sentence was first mentioned early on in Genesis — 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Gen. 2:17. After disobedience came the sentence — 22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. Gen. 3:22-23.
Abiding in the presence of God in the Garden of Eden is life, and the man and woman were sent from it. They were cast down to the ground. They had fallen from heaven (Ezek 14:12). In a figure, the Power Company shut off their electricity. Their light ceased to shine. They were evicted, if you please, yet I keep hearing people say that we never left God, that it is only an illusion, that there is no sin other than not knowing who we are, that we presently abide in paradise if we could only envision it. Tell the homeless man on the street corner that his miserable lot in life is not real, that it is only an illusion. Tell him he actually lives in the penthouse of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and all he has to do is to believe it, to envision it. Ha! Come on now. Really? He isn’t there, and he will never be there until the conditions are right.
Now, another simple equation. Decisions were made concerning Adam and everyone in Adam, as well as those in Christ. With those of the first man, the decision was katakrima, an adverse decision or sentence. With those in the Last man, the decision was krima, one of favor, a favorable sentence. Because of the obedience of Jesus, the katakrima of the first Adam was reversed with the decision that all who were adversely sentenced were justified, found not guilty. All were justified by the shed blood of Jesus. And let me stress — it was not the potential blood of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, but the crimson blood that poured from our Lord’s veins. But let me also stress that being justified is not the end of the matter. There must be salvation, there must be deliverance from sin which passes the adverse sentence of death. It is good to be justified, and it is great to be reconciled; but the sentence of death remains until the power of Life frees us from it: 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. Rom. 5:9-10.
Every born-from-above child of God should recognize this elementary truth as fundamental for our redemption. But for some, those first principles have evidently not become a part of their lives. 12For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13For every one that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14But strong meat belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Heb. 5:12-14.
Rather than discerning both good and evil, good is being called evil and evil is touted as being good. Quite a number are quick to tell you that there is no evil, no sin, and no death. Truly, skill in the word of righteousness is greatly lacking, and rather than ministering a word that births righteousness in people’s lives, death is the fruit as it is declared that everything is righteous, that there is no sin, only the illusion of sin. Rather than leading people to the narrow road and the strait gate of our Lord, they are encouraged to declare their sonship, and dance down the streets of the broad way, the dead-end road to perdition.
There may be an outside chance that there are a few full-grown, finished, manifested sons of God, and if this remote possibility is true, and there are truly any — we pray that they don’t let down those who are hurting. We pray that they will be the son of God that Jesus was, that they and heal the sick, cast out demons, and raise the dead. For these are the marks of sonship, and creation wants desperately to see it and set free. I haven’t been able to do much about it myself; for the fragment of manifestation there has been in my life would hardly help an ant, much less my family, my neighborhood, my city, my state, not to mention creation. If there are some who have truly arrived and are a finished work in the Kingdom of God, surely they will judge righteously with healing in their decisions so it frees people from the bondage of corruption. If they are truly a manifested son of God, oh, would to God you could have been here last year about this time; for you see, I know manifested sons of God not only have the power of life; but they can judge a situation and pass a sentence which frees people from the bondage of sin, death, and hell. If you would have only been here last year for my older brother who died the first day of summer. I could not help him, but a manifested son of God could have. Oh, if one of you would have only been here.
Let me bore you briefly with a short story of my 64 year old brother, Bobby. You see, he was an alcoholic (three six-packs of beer a day) and a heavy smoker (three packs a day). He would also drink Mogan David wine and Southern Comfort whisky when someone would buy it for him. The last three months of his life were spent wheelchair-bound in a nursing home. I would pick him up at least once a week and drive him to our parents home to spend a few hours with them and other family members.
On one of those drives from the nursing home, although Bobby could be very rough-shod and assertive, with the gentle spirit of a child he asked me, "You wouldn’t happen to have a bottle of wine at home, would you?" I knew this took a tremendous amount of courage for him to ask such a thing of me. Nevertheless, I said, "No. Why do you ask?" "Oh I don’t know. It’s just that a glass of wine would sure taste good." And that was the end of the conversation. I didn’t know it was the last time I would be making that trip with him. Four days later he was dead. His damaged lungs could no longer serve him, and his exhausted body gave up the struggle of taking one more breath of life-giving air, and he was gone. I miss him terribly.
To this day, those pleading words of his last request continually echo through my mind: "A glass of wine would sure taste good." But this "son of God" judged him. I condemned his desperate plea to taste one last time that which was his life. I passed my adverse sentence on his humble request, a simple plea for his pain to be relieved for a moment, to have one last taste of joy, a simple thing in my hands to give, or withhold — and I said "No, Bobby, I can’t help you." Ahhh!!! Oh God, help me.... I denied a dying man’s last request, and I thought I was judging right, righteous judgment. Ha! Such a stupid, self-righteous mentality. It’s not fit for anything but the garbage heap. And that goes for yours as well. Who am I, who are you, who are we to think we can judge other people’s lives? Who are we to create men in our self-esteemed, carnal image and expect them to measure up to it. It’s pathetic.
So, you think you are perfected, do you? So, you think you are a manifested son of God? So, you think all the fullness of the godhead dwells in you bodily? So, you think you are the I am, full of wisdom counsel and might? So, you think you can add one inch to your stature? Oh, you puny gods of great deception. Imagine it so, if you please, and see what you get when you spit into the Wind. Get real! You can’t judge the simplest of matters, and you know it; yet you are claiming to be God.
Tell me, would you have given my brother, or yours, that cool glass of wine to fulfill his last request made upon earth? You think so? Do you really think so? Most of you wouldn’t have done it because of your religious beliefs, and the rest of you wouldn’t have because of what you would have thought to be best for him, as it was for me. What do you know what is best for anyone in any given situation when you are not privy to eternal things? Only when you are in that eternal Day of our Lord Jesus Christ will you see enough and know enough to judge all things. Until then, it will be in part, and no more. Period!
You may have noticed my ire; and ire, I have at this moment; for when the heavens and the earth, when life and death, are teetering in the balance; you who walk in the pride of self, claiming to be manifested sons of God, the living embodiment of my Lord Jesus Christ, are doing nothing more than playing Ring Around the Roses. And you have nothing to show for your antics but a Pocket Full of Posies. You are creating smoke screens, building ear-tickling facades, and grand parabuildings. You are debating a fair price for tonsures.
A tonsure, as I am sure you know, is the little shaved patch on the crown of a monk’s head. And during the crucial hours or the Bolshevik Revolution of overthrowing the Czars, the Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church were in conference debating the most important affairs of the church, which was what a fair price for tonsures should be. They had no clue to the weighty matters of their nation, as it is the same today in this Kingdom.
The Czars fell, as history relates, and the Provisional Government was weakly established. Most of the socialist parties agreed to co-operate with it for the time being, believing that the season was not right for the creation of the socialist state, but Lenin believed the socialist revolution should take place at once. He persuaded the Bolsheviks to work to overthrow the Provisional Government, which they achieved in October 1917, and all other political parties were banned. They changed their name to the Communist Party in 1918. The earth was being torn apart; but the most important affairs of the day for the self-serving, blind leaders of the Russian Orthodox Church was how much they should pay to have their silly tonsure shaved.
Now, my holy friends, you who are of the Order of Sons, Clerics of the Kingdom, what is a good price to pay for the shaving of the silly religious emblem in the minds of your selfhood? I will not ask you to smile about this; but to weep, and to weep deeply. For such a crucial time as this, those who should be teachers are in need of milk and are filling their minds and others with frivolous nonsense. If they are manifested sons of God, they should be able to righteously judge men and angels; but I sense the claimants have a hard time judging the simplest of matters. I know I certainly do.
There is something else I am sensing lately. That which I have been writing has been both a word of life and also of death. Due to the response, it is clear that it has been life for most; but for some, it has undoubtedly been death. For it has been quite some time since we have received such bitterness from some of the "manifested sons of God." Truly, what I have written has slain some; but praise God, for others, it has ministered life, and the mystery is that it is the same word. Some are angered, while others are overjoyed. Again, it is one of those mysterious paradoxes.
There are times when men and women are so drawn to the Spirit of God that they are lost in that sublime glory. But there are other times when they hide from His presence, whether that presence is in word or in deed. Such hiding, I believe, is when they are in danger of being exposed. For instance:
7
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked.... 8And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool (ruach, wind, breath, spirit) of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. Gen. 3:7-8.One would think that the presence of their Creator, or any fragment of His person, would have been greatly welcomed in the garden they had been placed in and commissioned to cultivate, but not so. When they heard Him walking in the Spirit of His Day, they hid themselves. Under the right conditions, He would have been welcomed; but the conditions had changed. The condition of their hearts changed from it being His Day to their day, and His voice posed a threat. The change came after they said in their hearts, "We will be God! Our will, not Thine be done!" God’s soothing, life-giving voice suddenly changed in their ears. From the Law of Life to the law of death. From the promising concerto, to the drum-beat of doom. His voice resounded with the adverse sentence of death. He who had been their life became their death. Darkness swept over their once enlightened souls. It covered their deep, and they were ashamed. They were fearful of being seen without His clothing of light, and God became a deadly law to them — "thou shalt not eat"; but they did, and the law slew them. If He had never told them, "...of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die" they would have not known sin and they would not have died to the cool Spirit of His Day. His words, "thou shalt not eat of it, lest ye die," would have remained a promise, an assuring word; but in eating, it became a word of condemnation, a deadly law, and it slew them. And so it is with all the laws of God. When one is in Christ Jesus, he is walking in the Spirit of the whole Law, which happens to be holy (Rom. 7:12), and each of them is fulfilled in that walk. It is by being in Him that there is no fear of Him. In Him, there is no fear of dying from touching holy things. There is no fear of the Law; for whosoever is in Him is one Spirit and is also holy. It is when unsanctified flesh touches the holy that the sentence of death is enforced.
There are holy things that cannot be touched unless the conditions are right, and those conditions are always the same; namely, sanctification by being in Christ Jesus. If you are not in Christ Jesus, the conditions are not right for touching holy things. Your hands are hands of defiled flesh. They are polluted. Unsanctified hands of flesh are forbidden to touch holy things. To do so is invoking the sentence of death. 32...neither shall ye pollute the holy things of the children of Israel, lest ye die. Num. 18:32.
Let us note a complimentary word delivered by the anointed pen of Bob Torango. His recent newsletter embodies the gravity of this hour:
"Recently, while ministering in a Conference, I heard this word come out of me as the spirit of the Lord spoke to the people that had gathered unto Him. It has helped me to focus upon Him as never before and has given me even more strength to move on in Him. He spoke to my heart that we are entering a most holy place in the Lord, upon the same scale and impact as those times recorded in the scriptures that describe certain times when God appeared in the midst of His people in such a way that the very lives of men were in jeopardy if they moved out of order. When God wanted to talk to Israel out of the mount, the sight was so frightening that the Israelites told Moses to talk to God for them. The Lord told them to not approach the mount and not to let anything living approach the boundaries of it, or else that living thing would die. I was reminded how the ark of the covenant was being transported through the land and when it rocked, a man was killed trying to steady it. Even in the early church, when Ananias and Sapphira lied about hidden profits, they fell dead at the feet of the Apostles....I am wanting us to understand how we must realize what is taking place in our midst and how our relationship and walk in the Lord can move into a new realm as sacred and holy events start to take place.
"We are on the edge of a new experience in the Lord for the corporate sons, and we are going to have to be ready for a new dealing of God to be placed upon those that are willing to allow Him to finish this work in their life. This is not the time to become lax and casual about what we are about to enter into in God. We are pressing into a realm of great consequence, that has the power to move things, to correct ancient weaknesses, not a passive realm but a realm of pressure and transformation that must be approached with much awareness and caution. It is not the time to bandy about like children with an innocent little toy, but this which we are being caught up into is the same environment in which people of other dispensations encountered dire results from their foolishness. This is the time to focus, to be aware as never before that this place that our feet rest upon is nothing less than the very dwelling place of the most holy God! Flesh is not to be heard nor seen in this place. This is not the time to ramble on psychotically about our Godness, but this is the time for silence and humility. Shoes are to be discarded on this holy ground, tongues are to be harnessed, heads must be bowed, necks bent before the Ancient of Days. We must wait upon the Lord, be not quick to speak or to act, but learn patience in this place, for it is where angels tremble and the heavens are silenced by the impending performance of His will.
"We are in a moment that is pregnant with heavenly expectations, bulging with pressure to be released in the earth, a new creation man formed and imprinted with the icon of his Father. It is not a time for childish temperaments, but is a time for steadiness and calm. We must not be casual in handling this Day, for in the midst of the life of it, there is dreadful and unquenchable fire that will test us to see what is wood and hay and stubble and what is gold and silver. It is not a realm of duplicity and double talk; but it is concise, and we must hear it the first time and understand it’s meaning. We must be seasoned, tested and made sure to remain in this place. We cannot afford to be amateurish, bush league, loose tongued, extravagant, reckless, boorish, or flippant concerning it’s purpose and action in our life. Your life is not safe here. If you fear losing your life, this place is not for you. Only a few will remain in this place of immense consequence, and they are those that have relinquished their love of self and have disappeared into God. You can’t find them with your flesh, they are not here, they have arisen, beyond the touch of carnality, into the folds of God’s presence. Be still in this place, as much as you hear the words being spoken to you, you must also feel them, let their weight be felt upon your soul, until you realize this is not what we have known in days gone by, this is something more, something beyond our experience in Him.
"For those of you that have stayed in this room, I want you to know that heaven is gathered around you, closing in on us as clouds gathering on a mountain top, condensing in our midst with a palpable presence. All heaven is here, much as when the first man was formed from the dust of the ground, and breathed into by the breath of his Maker, we are being reformed, only this time it is not spirit entering an earthly body, but an earthly body entering spirit. You are in the womb of formation, the furnace of His making, nothing can deliver you out of His hands, He will have His way. Not things above, not things beneath, not principalities, not thrones, not dominions, not things past nor things present nor things to come, not things under the earth, nor things above the earth, you are in the hands of a living God who will not be denied of His intent in you. He has separated you unto Himself and in His jealousy He will not leave you to another. This is not the time to relax, it is the time to spring to your feet, to stand before the Lord in a stance of sacrifice and offering. It is not the time for the boast, to talk trash about yourself, it is the time to mention the name of the Lord and to enter into heart worship. It is not the time to go running hither and yon, but it is the time of confinement and tightness. It is not the time to be loose and free, it is the time to be grounded and established, unshakeable. I don’t hear the word of freedom right now, I hear the word of enslavement to Christ, servants of His will, prisoners of Jesus Christ, locked up, bolted down, strapped into Him.
"This is a strait gate, a narrow way that few find, it is not the broad, beaten down path that leads to destruction. I have heard it said many times, all paths lead to God, but I don’t believe that is entirely true. The journey itself will end up in God, but some paths have only one destination and that is destruction, dissimilation, judgment and nakedness. Those paths must be abandoned, back tracked, until we find the path that leads to life . There is only one way to life and there is only one path to God, and that path is to know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Redeemer. It is not the time to run down every rabbit trail that presents itself. It is not the time to run off to hear just anyone talk about God and giggle at their audacity to speak blasphemy. It is the time to behave directly opposite than many are behaving today in the kingdom realm. It may be in the plan for those that aren’t called and chosen to go into the kind of realm that I have just described, but for those of you that I believe I am writing this article for, you that have pulled this out of my spirit by your groaning and travailing to see the pure and undefiled Day of the Lord in your midst, you must not follow these pipers of mirage and delusion, but you must be even more particular about all that you allow into your spirit than at any other time in your walk in God.
"You have never been in a place like this in your prior experience in Christ. This is where strong men fail and the haughty are brought down to the earth. We must become picky about what we eat, smell it, examine it, handle it, turn it over and turn it over again, test it and then eat it. Do you think that you might offend God by your caution? Don’t you know that the Lord Himself warned His disciples not to eat of the leaven of the Pharisee’s? Today, if we give such a warning to the kingdom ranks, we are ridiculed as not letting God handle such things, and that we are not believing the Lord to be able to keep His own flock. Was Jesus also fearful and unable to trust His Father to keep His followers? I think not, but rather He was wanting them to become as knowledgeable as Himself about such things, that the leaven of the Pharisee’s was not an innocent thing, but there was death in the pot and if you ate of it, you would become sick from it. So, I am telling us all, beware of the dangers of deception, and don’t eat anything until you have judged it by the spirit of the Lord.
"Too many saints act like they are living in a spiritual all-you-can-eat buffet in the kingdom, where everything that is put on the table is fit for consumption, but it just is not so. I have found that even when someone knows that something can hurt them, they live in the delusion that they will be the one exception to that rule. Right now, for example, even after all of the initial warnings of how casual sex can transmit such life ending diseases as AIDS and oral and genital herpes, and many other life changing atrocities, you can see cars lining up on the streets where prostitutes sell their bodies, going from one car to another to have intimate contact with the car’s occupants, without even taking the time to wash themselves, and everyone of the men in the waiting cars are absolutely sure that they are the one exception to catching any diseases. They actually believe that a miracle will happen for them to escape such harm. Even so, there are many in the kingdom ranks that will tell you that they cannot be deceived, that they don’t see any harm in participating in sessions of witchcraft, seances, channeling, tarot cards, crystals, etc., each one believing that they are the exception to the rule. In the first article in this series, I listed a shocking list of conditions that people just like you and me found themselves in by thinking exactly this same way. Some of you couldn’t believe that anyone could get involved in such outrageous activities, and yet they have and they do right to this day. Yet, many wrote to me that regardless of all of this evidence, they still believed that they could partake of anything and it would not harm them, for they were manifested sons. I might as well wave goodbye to you right now and tell you that I will see you in the next resurrection, because you are not the exception to the rule, you are flesh and blood just like the rest of us and that road will lead to destruction. I used to be one of the directors of a popular drug program in Detroit, Michigan and saw the end result of such foolishness, strong and proud men and women, thinking they would use the drug and the drug wouldn’t use them, reduced to skin and bones, the walking dead, all because they thought they were the exception. I am not trying to scare you, although I would if I thought it would help you, but I am merely telling you that caution will serve you well in this realm of consequence.
"You are no longer walking in the innocence of past orders, wide eyed and gangly legged, trying your wings out. You are being called into the throne, dear one!! This isn’t the playground where children are expected to be children, this is power and dominion, life and death, a creative force that must be wielded with accuracy and professional craftsmanship. Some revel in the fact that they are no longer under law and have become a lawless son...." — End quote. (Deceptions Of The Mind, Part Three – The Finished Work (2).
26
Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they showed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Ezek. 22:26.Men have not changed; no, not one iota. They rise in their own carnal might, and this is to their shame, even though it is in the "name" of the Lord. They pollute that which is holy in their midst. Caution is thrown to the wind, as they run hog-wild. There are no restraints, that is, not until the voice of the LORD God is heard walking in the Spirit of His Day. With that sound meaning the end of their day, and being the harbinger of a sentence of death, they often try to undermine His messengers and destroy the Spirit of the Law of Life; but it’s of no use; for their attempts are like a person who dislikes the wind and tries to stop its blowing by stepping on it. Such, of course, is futile, and when their efforts fail, they will hide from the presence of the voice among the trees. They will hide among themselves, which is customary with religions of all kinds. Even so, they are cast out of the Garden, out of Christ. Although their claims are otherwise, they cannot remain, and no longer is God seen or heard walking in them. But rather, it is Satan, and he goes to and fro in their earth. He walks tirelessly up and down in it (Job 1:7). No longer is their home the garden of Eden, but the dry fields of the earth. Rather than light and plenty, they live in that place which became dark and void, in a realm void of any sense of God’s presence. Their minds have been darkened from His wise counsel, and when they are looked upon, a fallen clay model of Adam is seen, not the heavenly prototype of Jesus Christ.
When the anointing of God is seen and heard in people’s lives, we know that Law of Life, the embodiment of God, the Passover Lamb, has been walking in their garden. On the other hand, when the man is seen, we know that God, as the Law of Death, has been walking in their garden, and they have hidden themselves from Him. Depending on where one’s heart abides will determine whether God is of Life or of death, and so it is with the words that we hear and read. To one it will cause anger, and to another it will gender love. To one it will be a sentence of death; but to the other, it will be a wonderful sentence of life. Indeed — a mysterious paradox!
