Just-A-Thought No. 481 (November 3rd. 2015) ADD TO SUBTRACT opposite thinking! (Rom.12:20) Therefore if thine enemy hunger (neg,), feed him (add food); if he thirst (neg.), give him drink (add drink.): for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. The saying originated from the way in which red hot coals are carried in the early morning from one household to another in Middle-East homes in the Jesus era. One woman who has the flint, rises first and builds a fire and a lad then takes the burning coals on a pottery tray balanced on his head, to the other households. The lad would far rather be sleeping in! Hes complaining and just not a happy camper!! However with a change of attitude, this could be a pleasant task -- especially on a cold morning -- he is warmed by the coals he carries as he goes about his task and then, Bless them that curse you (speak negatively and irritably towards you like Come on lad, hurry up); pray for them that despitefully use you (Luke 6:28); Heaping coals of fire upon his head may just warm him up and melt his disagreeable and complaining ways. (Rom.12:21) Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. ADD TO SUBTRACT a soft answer turns away wrath so pile on the blessings and observe! Try it! FFT |
