WHAT IS THY BELOVED?

“What is thy Beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? What is thy Beloved more than another beloved, that thou dost so charge us?” (Song of Solomon 5:9)

The previous verse reads, “I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my Beloved, that ye tell Him, that I am sick of love”. Here is desire and longing so intense it cannot be satisfied with anything less than Himself, and His fullness. Many will not be able to understand why it is thus with you. What has you so stirred up, why such deep and intense crying after Him. So they ask, “What is thy Beloved more than another beloved?” And so she begins with the description, “My Beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand. His head…His locks…His eyes…His cheeks…His lips…His hands…She tries to describe Him in all the ways that they might understand, using terms they are familiar with, but it cannot convey what she really feels in her heart, and finally all she can say is, “yea, HE IS ALTOGETHER LOVELY. This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend,” (Song of Solomon 5:16).

It won’t be the terms and phrases that reach them, but when they sense that deep spirit moving within, and that utter oneness toward Him alone, that love for Him which has drawn you away from all others, to cleave solely upon the Lord, then that LIFE will captivate them, also. So they responded, “Whither is thy Beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? Whither is thy Beloved turned aside? That we may see Him with thee,” (Song of Solomon 6:1). Now they are ready to seek Him! It was not the exalting of some church, some group, or some doctrine. It was that reaching out of pure love for the fullness of His LIFE, and it draws like a magnet. “Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths,” (Isa. 2:3).

The call of my being, as deep unto Deep, this yearning for fullness, a trysting to keep,

Till He in His glory returns to His own, and I’m His forever, yea, I’m His alone.
