SAVED BY HIS LIFE
“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His
Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” (Romans 5:10)
“And He said unto the them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s
life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which He possesseth.” (Luke
2:15)
We are saved by HIS LIFE – His life is not made up of things on this material
realm. It is not the abundance of earthly possessions, which makes for life –
that is, a life that endures, and totally satisfies the inner desires. Those
rich in this world’s good, without the life of the Spirit, become bored and
weary with their existence, and so filled with frustration for having tried it
all, they say with the wise preacher of old, “it is all vanity, and vexation of
spirit”.
But there is a life of such glory and fullness into which we are being saved, so
that Paul stated, “In my opinion whatever we may have to go through now is less
than nothing compared with the magnificent future God has planned for us”, (Rom.
8:18, Phillips). It is the earnest measures of THIS LIFE that He is imparting
now, which, working in us, causes us to daily overcome.
We recognize the need for the death process, for conformity to His death means
the end of all our own self-pursuits, self-will, etc. but this inworking of
death does not save us, it merely brings us to the end of the old, that we might
be birthed into the new. Nor was it His death that brought us salvation. That,
also was to bring an end to the estrangement, the enmity between us and God. But
now, being thus reconciled, we shall be saved – saved because of an impartation
of HIS LIFE. Truly, “The Lord redeemeth the soul of His servants: and none of
them that trust in Him shall be desolate,” (Psalm 34:22).
Saved by His life – a life that’s replete,
Wondrous redemption that now makes us meet
To be partakers of victory sweet,
Salvation through Christ means a life complete.
