VICTORY IN OCCUPYING
“And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto
them, occupy till I come. (Luke 19:13)
With the lofty peak of spiritual maturity set before us, radiant glory so
brilliant that it almost obscures the circumscribed confines of the present,
there is often a sense of futility experienced – why do anything now? Why not
wait until that hour has come? But there is an OCCUPYING UNTIL.
There is a balance wrought by the Spirit, so that we do not neglect the present
because we see a greater work coming in the future, which will be pure, and
redound to God’s glory. Nor would we become so involved with the ‘now’ that we
are not steadily being prepared for that coming day. We live today in the light
of tomorrow, yet we do not wait until tomorrow to begin to live. “The life WHICH
I NOW LIVE in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God.” (Gal. 2:20).
The criterion for all our occupying efforts is still found to be that of our
Lord: “I can of Mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and My judgment is
just; because I seek not Mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath
sent Me,” (John 5:30). And, “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me,”
(John 4:34).
We are clearly admonished, “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him. – And whatsoever
ye do, do heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men: knowing that of the Lord
ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord,” (Col.
3:17, 23).
Surely our God is able to help us live each day in victory. There is no victory
in self-striving, for that only builds up a work of the flesh that will
ultimately be torn down. But moving in union with the will of God, He provides
all that we need for each situation as the time comes, so that “in all these
things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.”
Whate’er we do, whate’er we be,
Through Christ it is in victory.
