TO REST AT NOON
“Tell me, O Thou whom my soul loveth, where Thou feedest, where Thou makest Thy
flock to rest at noon?” (Song of Solomon 1:7)
Who is this One whom my soul loveth? “The LORD is my Shepherd,” (Ps. 23:1). He
is “the GREAT Shepherd,” (Heb, 13:20). For He is “the CHIEF Shepherd,” (I Pet.
5:4). He is not some ‘hireling’ to be called upon to obey our whims and desires,
when we need His help. But He must truly be OUR LORD, in total control over all
that touches our lives, whose will is pre-eminent, and to which we fully
surrender.
Not only will He cause us to feed in green pastures, and lead us beside the
still waters, but He also causes His flock to rest at noon. “There remaineth
therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he
also hath ceased from his own works,” (Heb. 4:9-10). Note how quickly Saul of
Tarsus (Paul_ ceased from his own works, and began to serve God in the sphere of
the spirit, when he had that special NOON DAY experience. “At mid-day, O king, I
saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining
round about me and them which journeyed with me,” (Acts 26:13). With this
‘happening’ he came to the end of his own works of persecuting those who
believed in Jesus and His way, and thereafter declared, “For God is my witness,
Whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son,” (Rom. 1:9). No more to
depend upon “enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit
and of power,” (I Corinthians 2:4).
The prophecy stands, and shall be fulfilled, “The remnant of Israel shall not do
iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their
mouth: for they shall feed and lie down (rest), and none shall make them
afraid,” (Zephaniah 3:13).
All the works of the flesh will have ceased, the carnal nature ended, they feed
in Him, and come into His rest. And none shall make them afraid, because,
”perfect love casteth out all fear,” (I John 4:18). Clothed with a consciousness
of His love, to rejoice in His peace and victory.
