THE LORD IS GREAT
“Great is the Lord, and
greatly to be praised in the
city of our God, in the
mountain of His holiness.”
(Psalm 48:1)
“The Lord is great in Zion;
and He is high above all the
people.” (Ps. 99:2)
Webster has defined the word
great this way: GREAT alone
expresses degree, and
figuratively suggests
eminence, distinction. The
Lord is great! He is in the
highest degree in Zion. Only
as we progress into the
Light do we really begin to
realize how great is our
God, that He truly is GOD.
Sovereign, omnipotent,
totally God.
Christendom has long dwelt
in the shadows, and limited
the Holy One of Israel,
while they have magnified
the Devil. The bigger their
devil became in their
consciousness, the smaller
their god becomes in their
awareness of Him. But the
more you walk on in the
light, the more your soul
responds to sing, “HOW GREAT
THOU ART, HOW GREAT THOU
ART.” To say with Psalm 77:
13, “Who is so great a god
as our God?”
“Cry out and shout, thou
inhabitant of Zion: for
great is the Holy One of
Israel in the midst of
thee.” (Isa. 12:6).
While in all things He must
have the pre-eminence, for
HE IS ABOVE ALL, yet when
the Lord shall appear in
Zion in His glory, His
firstfruits also shall
appear before Him in Zion,
to share His glory, and so
we read, "Thy gentleness
(or, Thy humility) hath made
me great." (Ps. 18:35). He
who was great –– "He who was
rich, yet for our sakes He
became poor, that we through
His poverty might be made
rich." (2 Cor. 8:9). What
grace is extended to us that
we might be made partakers
of His greatness. Yet let it
ever be clear, we are only
great in the measure that HE
is great in us. ""Not I, but
Christ liveth in me."" His
life becoming the totality
of our life.
The humility of God is one
of the significant factors
of His greatness. Because HE
IS great, He was able to
empty Himself for us, meet
us on the basis of poverty,
then having freely given us
all things, lift us up into
His greatness, to become one
in Himself.
