AUGUST 7
GO NOT A-CHASING
“Wherefore if they shall say
unto you, Behold, He is in
the desert; go not forth:
behold, He is in the secret
chambers; believe it not. –
For wheresoever the carcass
is, there will the eagles
(Greek, vultures) be
gathered together.” (Matt.
24:26,28)
In the 27th verse, tucked in
between these two verses
just given, Jesus gave a
clear explanation of His own
coming. “For as the
lightning cometh out of the
east, and shineth even unto
the west; so shall the
coming of the Son of man
be.” He would not come
sneaking in from the desert,
nor hiding in the secret
chamber, but as the
brilliancy of the lightning,
which illuminates everything
to be seen as it really is,
He shall uncover every
secret thing, and be
revealed in the power and
glory of His kingdom. We are
not children of the night,
we are of the day, and even
His coming unto us shall be
as the LIGHT.
But while Jesus inserted
this qualifying explanation
of His own coming into this
passage, He was teaching us
of the coming of the
deceivers, those false
christs, who would come
claming to be the “anointed
of God,” for that is what
the word “christ” really
means. It is true that HE IS
ANOINTING HIS OWN WITH THE
SAME SPIRIT OF WHICH HE IS,
yet these false ones,
psuedo-christs, make their
own claims about themselves,
and “he that speaketh of
himself seeketh his own
glory.” (John 7:18). Go not
out into the desert to see
them, go not into the secret
chambers to see them,
because wheresoever the
carcass is, there are the
vultures gathered together.
Vultures feed upon dead
bodies, dead flesh. Eagles
do not feed upon rotting
flesh, they require fresh
meat. If you go chasing out
with the vultures you will
only partake of the death
realm. “IN HIM is life, and
His life is the light of
men.” (John 1:4).
Others shall say, “go here,”
and “go there,”
Wandering souls in deserts
quite bare.
Feeding on flesh as vultures
that glean,
Turning again to ways that
demean.
“Go ye not forth,” the
Master did say,
Eagles await the dawn of His
day.
