GOD IS…
“God is our refuge and strength a very present help
in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
The lofty heights of revelation are beautifully
balanced with the practical outworkings of truth
received through the nitty-gritty processing’s of
the day. Hindsight reveals that God has marvelously
worked in our past. The veiled, unknownness of the
future compels us to commit whatever lies ahead unto
Him, to work it out and bring forth His will in
every part. So that leaves us with the immediate
present to deal with, and joyfully walk on a day at
a time. To find in Him a total sufficiency for
today. This is the day the Lord hath made; we will
rejoice and be glad in it.” (Ps. 118:24).
The Psalmist began on a very positive note, “GOD
IS…” And this is in line with Hebrews 11:6, “for he
that cometh to God must believe that HE IS, and that
He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”
“Thou believest that there IS one God; thou doest
well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” (James
2:19).
“The fool (Hebrew, empty person) said in his heart,
there is no God.” (Psalm 14:1).
“The wicked, through the pride of his countenance,
will not seek after God: God is not in his
thoughts.” (Ps. 10:4). Or, as the margin gives, “all
his thoughts are, There is no God.”
Wicked, foolish, empty persons – no, we would not be
numbered among them, for we have sought the Lord, we
have walked with Him, talked with Him, and know the
joy and reality of His blessing. HE IS! The very
fact that we cry out, “Lord, help me!” indicates
that we do believe that HE IS, that He not only
exists, but that He is a rewarder of them that
diligently seek Him.
It is when we do not believe that HE IS, and that HE
WILL DO HIS OWN WORK, that we begin to promote our
own schemes for a “do-it-yourself” type of program.
But when we know that HE IS, we can “commit our way
unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring
it to pass.” (Ps. 37:5).
