NOVEMBER 7
CHANGED BY DEGREES
“All of us, with face unveiled, gazing on the mirrored glory of our Lord, are
hourly being transformed into the same likeness, from a mere reflected glory
into an inherent glory, as may well be, since it proceeds from the Lord, the
Spirit.” (II Cor. 3:18, A.S. Way)
It is a positive fact, we cannot change ourselves. “Which of you by taking
thought can add one cubit unto his stature?” (Matt. 6:27). “For we are HIS
WORKMANSHIP, CREATED IN Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before
ordained that we should walk in them.” (Eph. 2:10), but it is HIS HANDIWORK
within, as He wills to do of His own good pleasure. He initiates the work of our
salvation, and He is the Finisher.
“As we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the
heavenly.” (I Cor. 15:49), and there is the necessity of being changed into that
heavenly image, from one degree of glory to another, progressively. We note that
the word ‘tranformed’ used by Arthur S. Way, comes from the Greek word
‘Metamorphosis’, the process of bringing forth an outward expression of one’s
true inner nature.
The example often being used of the worm and the butterfly. Inherent in the worm
is the nature and expression of the butterfly, it simply requires that a change
take place. When we were by nature “The children of wrath” (Eph. 2:3), there was
no way we could manifest the image of the heavenly. It is the receiving of
CHRIST to dwell within us, to become our NEW NATURE, that we can then begin to
give expression of the NEW LIFE. But it also required a putting off of the old
covering of flesh and self, that the new man might emerge to shew forth HIS
praises. Thus our metamorphosis process!
From glory to glory, as line upon line,
He inworks His purpose thy life to refine,
And when He has finished the process begun,
Conformed to His image, we’re one in the Son.
