OCTOBER 30
SILENT BEFORE HIM
“The Lord is in His holy
temple; let all earth keep
silence before Him.”
(Habakkuk 2:20)
To be silent, to be quieted,
literally means the end of
all projection of self. The
end of all action of our own
will. A ceasing from running
to and fro seeking to fill
up the inner void. Thus this
true state of being quieted,
in silence before Him, can
only follow the processing’s
of making things equal,
balanced within. No more
see-sawing back and forth,
no more ups and downs, no
more double-mindedness that
leaves us driven and tossed
like the waves of the sea.
What a work of sovereign
grace to be wrought!
Therefore shall her
(Babylon’s) young men fall
in the streets, and all her
men of war shall be cut off
(silenced) in that day,
saith the Lord.” (Jer.
50:20). All the warfare of
Babylon shall be brought to
an end. All of the fightings,
bickerings, so-called holy
crusades of religious group
against some other religious
group, all of it will have
to end. How earth has
groaned beneath all this
confusion of religion. But
the inflow of the truth, the
life, the revelation of HIM
who is the way, will bring
an end to this whole ungodly
system of religious
institutionalism.
But even more important at
the moment is our own
personal being, and as long
as we have any hangover from
Babylon remaining in us, we
cannot be silent. Religious
traditions will wage a
warfare, cast doubts,
instigate fear, bring death
wherever there is one
vestige remaining of its
corruption. I dare say, it
is one thing to be called
out of Babylon, and another
thing to have all of Babylon
purged out of us. But all of
her young men, her
off-spring will be silenced,
and she will corrupt the
earth no longer.
“Rest in the Lord, and wait
patiently for Him.” (Ps.
37:8). This word “rest” is
literally, “to be silent,
quiet, standing still.”
There is a ceasing from our
own works, an entering into
His rest, and it comes as He
fills us with Himself. The
more “HE IS IN HIS HOLY
TEMPLE,” the more we shall
be silent before Him –
resting in His sufficiency,
rejoicing in His love.
