TO BE POURED OUT
“For I am now ready to be
offered.” (2 Tim. 4:6)
The word “offered” is a
Greek word that literally
means, TO BE POURED OUT. Its
reference is to the Old
Testament “drink offering”
which was to be poured put
before the Lord, offered to
Him.
David thirsted for a drink
of water from the well of
Bethlehem, and some of his
mighty men broke through the
ranks of the enemy and “drew
water out of the well of
Bethlehem, that was by the
gate, and took it, and
brought it to David: but
David would not drink it,
but poured it out to the
Lord. And said, My God
forbid it me, that I should
do this thing: shall I drink
the blood of these men that
have put their lives in
jeopardy? For with their
lives they brought it.
Therefore he would not drink
it.” (1 Chron. 11: 18-19).
David could not drink for
the satisfaction of his own
flesh, this water which had
been secured at the risk of
the lives of these men, but
his desire was poured out
with the water, the longing
of his soul mingled with the
water and was poured put
before the Lord, a drink
offering to God. here we
would borrow the question
from Matthew 26:8, “to what
purpose is this waste?” as
the woman with the alabaster
box of very precious
ointment poured it upon the
head Jesus, but the people
there could not understand
why she did so.
How often have you felt that
the “POURING OUT” of your
life has been a waste?
Separated from all else,
poured out only unto the
Lord, others do not see it,
they cannot drink of it,
they cannot drink of it and
be refreshed, they cannot
receive its encouragement.
It all seems to be almost
selfish in its exclusion,
yet it is poured out unto
the Lord, and men would say,
“to what purpose this
waste?” Ah, it is not wasted
when poured out unto God,
for as the water David
poured out upon the ground,
vaporized by the sun and
lifted heavenward, so also
is every life poured put
unto the Lord, though
isolated from other men, yet
it becomes gathered in His
golden vial to await His
further purpose. Yea, to
become a part of that living
stream which He shall send
forth to bring life to all
creation, at His appointed
time.
