THE 8 MIRACLE-SIGNS IN JOHN
INTRODUCTION
MARK 4: 35-41
This series of articles will cover the eight sign-miracles recorded in the Gospel of John. There are seven before the Cross and the final one after that tremendous event. We are introduced to the phrase ‘MIRACLE- SIGN’ in verse eleven of John chapter 2. The Greek word used is ‘semeion’ and means ‘a sign’ and has regard to the significance of what transpired. i.e. the intention. It has been translated as ‘miracle’ (13) times out of (17) uses in John.
There are (8) occasions in this Gospel where this Greek word is used in a MIRACULOUS CONTEXT — (4) are correctly translated ‘sign’ and the other (4) should have been. (Ref. Companion Bible App.#176) These (8) “semeion’s” have great significance for us as the Spirit unveils the teaching which is just below the ‘black ink’ surface.
A ‘sign’ always confirms or points towards something. The first seven signs point toward a glorious climax (in miracle No.8) to a stage in the plan of God that He has for us, His people . . . AT LEAST RIGHT NOW, FOR THOSE WHO HAVE EARS TO HEAR. These (8) miracle-signs will be introduced as possible ‘LACKS’ in our lives but climaxing with Jesus Christ meeting each need and fulfilling His desire for He has already supplied for every lack. It would be very good to read the scripture of each chapter slowly before proceeding to the challenges of the word.
