AUGUST 10
WORSHIP THE CREATOR
“Fear God, and give glory to
Him; for the hour of His
judgment is come: and
worship Him that made
heaven, and earth, and the
sea, and the fountain of
waters.” (Rev. 14:7)
Paul wrote of those “who
changed the truth of God
into a lie, and worshipped
and served the creature more
than the Creator, who is
blessed for ever.” (Rom.
1:25).
More and more, from deep
within the heart of God’s
elect, there rises that
desire to worship God, to
exalt Him, to lift Him up,
to magnify His name. Far too
long man has laboured under
the delusion of his own
“godship” as if he was
capable of deciding his own
destiny, and the power in
himself to fulfill it.
Gladly do we now surrender
all to our Lord Jesus
Christ, that it may be HIS
LIFE lived through us, while
our own self-will is dealt
with by His cross, and our
will becomes subservient to
His will in all things.
The story is given: “A
certain infidel was reported
to have raised his hand and
dared God, if there be a
God, to bring it down. Now
the case was such that the
infidel was bald, and there
was a fly buzzing around
which at that very moment
landed on this bald pate and
tickled it, and without
hesitation down came the
hand and swatted the fly.
Thus God had answered the
fool according to his folly,
not by a mighty act of
omnipotence, but by a
seemingly insignificant
weakness of a little fly.”
This infidel’s declaration
act was prompted by a desire
for fame, this he inherited
from his human nature. Alone
on an island somewhere he
would never have done such a
thing. Next, his baldness
was not of his own will, for
man does not will to be bald
with a sensitive skin. Then
we see how God used this
man’s will against itself.
He willed to hold his hand
up, but the tickle of the
fly was far more momentous
in his life than the
existence of God, so while
he willed to hold up his
hand, he also willed to swat
the fly, and God, setting
man’s own will against
itself, defeated itself.
