AUGUST 11
FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT
“He brought them out of
darkness and the shadow of
death, and brake their bands
in sunder.” (Psalm 107:14)
When Man became a living
soul (Genesis 2:7), he found
himself limited, placed
within bounds – the
brightness of God was on one
side, the darkness of the
flesh was on the other. In
the beginning he possessed a
bright nature, able to
commune with God. But
falling into the soulishness
of “I will.” Subjected to a
body of flesh, made from the
dust of the earth, he found
himself in a conflict,
whether to yield to the
glory of the Spirit realm,
or to begin to mind the
things of the flesh. God had
breathed into him the breath
of life, the inspiration of
the Almighty was upon him,
and God laid claim to him,
saying, “this creature is
Mine.” But the realm of the
flesh also laid claim upon
him, in as much as he was
encased in a body of the
earth.
We know that Adam communed
with God for a season, “the
voice of the Lord God
walking in the garden in the
cool of the day.” (Gen.
3:8). God is Spirit, and
Adam was able to commune in
spirit with God, alive, open
to this realm. The bright
nature within him was able
to respond to the light of
God, without shadows cast
upon the fellowship, until
sin took hold, and
immediately Adam found
himself on the edge of
darkness. As sin’s
consequence took hold, the
light within went out,
“having the understanding
darkened, being alienated
from the life of God,” (Eph.
4:18), and he gave his mind
to the flesh.
The record does not end with
man’s plunge into darkness,
God already had arrangements
made “to give knowledge of
salvation unto His people by
the remission of their sins,
through the tender mercy of
our God; whereby the
Dayspring from on high hath
visited us, to give light to
them that sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the
way of peace.” (Luke
1:77-79).
From the edge of darkness
and into His light,
The Spirit doth lead us out
of earth’s night.
