CHOSEN TO HEAR HIS VOICE
“And He said, The God of our fathers hath chosen
thee, that thou shouldest know His will, and see
that just One, and shouldest hear the voice of His
mouth. For thou shalt be His witness unto all men of
what thou hast seen and heard.’ (Acts 22:14-15)
There are many scriptures that speak of being chosen
of God, ordained, elect, that remnant of His grace
which He is calling today. But the Greek word used
in this case is only given three times in the New
Testament, it means TO TAKE IN HAND BEFORE. God is
soverignly reaching out through each generation and
apprehending a people. It is HIS HAND placed upon
you, to take you into Himself, to hear His voice.
There is a specific election realized when God
stretched forth His hand and placed it upon you –
not because you asked for it, but by reason of His
own purpose and plan He apprehends whom He
apprehends.
“That thou shouldest know His will.” God has taken
us in hand that we, under His sovereign dealing,
come to know by experience the will of God. Betimes
He does impart a revelation, but this illumination,
in itself, is not enough. It needs to then be worked
into us by experience, until we fully know “that
good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”
(Rom. 12:2).
“And see that just One.” SEE – Greek, “eidon” which
is the same as “oida” meaning to know, to see, and
used for absolute knowledge, unmistakable seeing and
knowing. “Their eyes were opened, and they knew
Him.” (Luke 24:31).
“And shouldest hear the voice of His mouth.” Chosen,
taken in hand to hear His Voice! To hear is more
than just an awareness of the sound, but it includes
the thought of understanding what is spoken in such
a way that it produces a response, a hearkening in
obedience. “Every one that is of the truth heareth
my voice.” (john 18:37).
Teach me, Lord to hear Thy voice,
Make thy will my only choice.
