JULY 17
GOD GIVES A LANDING PLACE
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is
common to man: but God is faithful, who will not
suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able: but
will with the temptation also make a way of escape,
that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Cor. 10:13)
Before we become mis-led into a false idea on God
providing “a way of escape.” We had best emphasize
the rest of the context, clarified with another
translation: “God is faithful to His Word and to His
compassionate nature, and He can be trusted not to
let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your
ability and strength of resistance and power to
endure, but with the temptation He will always also
provide the way out – the means of escape to a
landing place – that you may be capable and strong
and powerful patiently to bear up under it.”
Praise the Lord! Not a way out, so as to be free of
the situation, but a way made TO A LANDING PLACE,
where we might stand solid on the Word of truth, and
be able to patiently bear up under it. We are not
absolved from carrying the load, but we are brought
to a place where we can stand firm, undergirded by
the Spirit if truth, supported by the knowledge that
God is in control. And by His grace be able to bear
it through to a successful conclusion of victory.
This is in harmony with James 1:2, “My brethren,
count it all joy when ye fall into divers
temptations
( testings, trials). Thus one scholar gives, “Is
your life full of difficulties and temptations? Then
be happy, for when the way is rough, your patience
has a chance to grow. So let it grow, and don’t try
to squirm out of your problems.” Don’t try to squirm
out of it – no escapism, but a process that leads to
overcoming, that we might be found to His praise,
honor, and glory. “Though the Lord give you the
bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet
shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any
more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: and
thine ear shall hear a word behind thee, saying,
this is the way, walk ye in it.” (Isa. 30:20).
