ALLEGORICAL RELATIONSHIPS
“For in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead
bodily. And ye are complete in Him.” (Col. 2:9-10)
An allegory is a description of one thing under the
image of another, a veiled presentation in which the
more obvious becomes becomes symbolic of a deeper
thought and meaning.
“For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for
I have espoused you to one husband, that I may
present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.” (2 Cor.
11:2).
“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power
to become the sons of God, even to them that believe
on His name.” (John 1:12).
“The disciple is not above his master: but every one
that is perfect shall be as his master.” (Luke
6:40).
“No man that warreth entangleth himself with the
affairs of this life; that he may please him who
hath chosen him to be a soldier.” (2 Tim. 2:4).
Virgins becoming brides, sons becoming grooms,
pupils becoming teachers. Servants becoming masters,
recruits becoming good soldiers, the allegories are
many, and each position and relationship speaks of
essential qualities that that are needed in the life
of a believer – but none of these are an end in
themselves. They all point to a fuller and more
complete realm in God, when we shall be “complete in
Him.”
It might surprise some, but Jesus never taught
either doctrines on the bride or the sons, through
His applications from many relationships. But His
deepest message was to bring us into ONENESS WITH
THE FATHER. “I in them and Thou in Me, that they may
be made perfect in one.” (john 17:23).
The pureness of a chaste virgin, the strength and
overcoming of the sons, the maturity of a perfected
disciple, the commitment of a good soldier, unified
by the love of the brethren, with the love and
tenderness of a mother, and the protecting,
defending love of the father – the fullness of
Christ, to be equal to every situation, and prepared
for every good work.
