JUNE 8
A BRAMBLE BUSH
“And when forty years were
expired, there appeared to
Moses in the wilderness of
mount Si’nai an angel of the
Lord in a flame of fire in a
bush.” (Acts 7:30)
The wilderness itself does
not appear to be conductive
to revelation or great
spirituality, we tend to
associate it with testing
and trial, and a sheer test
of survival. The monotony of
daily routine does not
appear to be the ideal
setting for a special
visitation from the Lord.
Yet it was here that God met
with Moses. The angel of the
Lord appeared. One does not
summon these messengers at
will, nor spend time looking
for angels. God retains the
responsibility for the
arranging of the messenger’s
coming.
For Moses the messenger did
take an unusual form,
certainly attracting his
attention, with a flame of
fire. Oftentimes we find
that God uses a “fiery test”
to draw our attention past
the natural realm, to
prepare us to see and hear
Him. Fires bring a rare
illumination that often
reveals with clarity things,
facts, truths which were
held in obscurity till that
hour.
The bush – the Hebrew word
“seneh” means A THORNY BUSH,
and the Greek “batos” means
A BRAMBLE BUSH. Who would
have thought that a thorny,
bramble bush would be used?
A book could be written on
all the ramifications of
this visitation, but one of
the beautiful lessons to be
learned is that God can use
any thorny situation – set
it aflame with His presence,
alert us that HE IS THERE,
and then out of it all
impart new inspiration, new
understanding, deepen our
call in Him, and work out
more of His purpose. We seek
not the bramble bush, but we
seek God who is able to use
all things, and who can meet
us anywhere He chooses. “And
your eyes shall see, and ye
shall say, The Lord will be
magnified.” (Mal. 1:5).
The time and place are all
His own,
The negative becomes a
throne
When He would use a bramble
bush –
Alert us when the pressures
push,
To find communion with Him
there,
Sweet fellowship with Him to
share.
In times like this we learn
to say,
Praise God for brambles in
my was.
