VESSELS OF MERCY
“That He might make known
the riches of His glory on
the vessels of mercy, which
He hath afore prepared unto
glory, even us, whom He hath
called…” (Rom. 9:23-24)
“For God hath concluded
(shut up together) them all
in unbelief, that He might
have mercy upon all.” (Rom.
11:32). That the vessels of
wrath would be filled with
unbelief is self-evident,
now comes the thought that
for a short season God also
concluded the vessels of
mercy in this unbelief, only
with respect to the time
when He would HAVE MERCY
UPON THEM ALL. Then comes
this Divine selectivity of
God, as He chooses those
whom He will use in the
various outworkings of His
purpose. Some are to remain
solid in their unbelief for
a time, to be those vessels
of wrath, and others are
CALLED OUT, awakened unto
righteousness, then prepared
to be vessels through whom
His love and mercy shall
flow to all mankind. It is
not a question of “ultimate
salvation,” for that is
secure in Christ for all
men, but rather, to what
position have we been
apprehended to fill during
the outworking of His plan
of the ages.
Vessels afore prepared –
made ready beforehand. God
never has to hurriedly bring
forth a remedy as a by
product of necessity. He
knows what is going to
happen, and He has
everything prepared in its
proper timing. So also,
God’s vessels of mercy are
going to be fully ready
before He pours out His
wrath against all
unrighteousness, and He will
be able to maintain a
perfect balance in all His
operations. “Mercy rejoiceth
against judgment.” (James
2:13), and so God’s new
covenant mercy vessels shall
minister His love, without
condemnation, “not imputing
their trespasses unto them,”
but rather, proclaiming the
grace of God which
reconciles all to Himself.
While there are those who
now have “not believed, yet
through your mercy they also
may obtain mercy.” (Rom.
11:31). The Spirit of love
and mercy will fully conquer
all negative forces of
destruction and loss, then
restore all that which was
blighted, marred, ruined; to
lift the whole of creation
back into harmony and peace
again.
