JUNE 25
ANOINTED EYESIGHT
“And in that day shall the
deaf hear the words of the
book, and the eyes of the
blind shall see out of
obscurity, and out of
darkness. The meek also
shall increase their joy in
the Lord, and the poor among
men shall rejoice in the
Holy One of Israel.” (Isa,
29:18-19)
“And anoint thine eyes with
eyesalve, that thou mayest
see.” (Rev. 3:18).
Though the prophet Isaiah
betimes would speak of the
darkness that would cover
the earth, and gross
darkness the people, times
of chaos, confusion and
shame, he would also go on
to declare that God was
giving light to His people,
that they might see out of
obscurity, to behold Him who
is their Victory.
It is significant that when
the Spirit quickens the
inner man, in whatever
message He imparts, though
the negative conditions are
clearly seen and, vividly
described, there is also
that upsurging note of
light, so that if our eyes
are anointed to see, they
penetrate the darkness and
behold the dawning of that
new day which is
approaching. How the things
of earth will grow strangely
dim, in the light of His
glory and grace.
With the Psalmist we now
would say, ”Mine eyes
prevent the night watches,
that I might meditate in Thy
Word.” (Ps. 119:148).
Precious are His inworkings
when we are able to reach
out beyond the night
watches, to see the dawning
of His new day. And how
desperately men need
anointed eyesight, to see
that beyond all the present
shakings there is a
receiving of a kingdom which
cannot be shaken. To see
beyond the weeping which
endures for a night, to know
that joy cometh in the
morning. To see that though
many are being “sifted as
wheat,” yet our Lord has
prayed that “thy faith fail
not,” and after all the
sifting there shall come
forth that pure faith which
belongs to the matured
character. To see that
“though the vision tarry,”
Yet “He that shall come will
come” at the Father’s
appointed time. Anointed
eyesight means that while
the darkness and obscurity
still persist, yet these
eyes are enabled to see
beyond the immediate
negativity, into the glory
of that which shall be
revealed in due time.
